Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles finally resurfaces with this cover of Streets of NY from TMNT 2: The Arcade Game!
This was November’s Patreon Request List winner for Dexter. Ironically, back when we were choosing songs for NES Medley #4 in August, more TMNT songs were entered than any other series, but none of them were chosen in the drawing. Instead, it won it’s own whole song in a request list drawing.
The TMNT 2 soundtrack is my personal favorite from the NES TMNT titles. I actually have done another song from this soundtrack, Technodrome, back in NES Medley #3. I remember it being one of the tougher ones in the medley. This song was equally as challenging, in fact there are a few runs that gave me a hard time for a little bit.
I knew initially this wasn’t going to be an enormously popular song, so upon first arranging it, I wanted to do something to make it stand out a little bit. This song is heavily influenced by the TMNT theme song, so I had a wacky idea to throw in some of the main theme song via vocals, which I haven’t done in quite some time. It was mostly experimental at first but I thought it sounded pretty cool so I decided to keep it in.
I really like this soundtrack so I wouldn’t rule out going back to it, I’m really big on the first stage theme (Building on Fire), however the most requested TMNT song at the moment is the Super Shredder battle theme from The Manhatten Project, better known from it’s appearance in Turtles in Time, which is another song I’d really like to do. Someday!
