I can no longer joke about doing other Metroid songs that aren’t Kraid’s Lair.

Recently, I held a few polls on the YouTube channel centered around medleys. I was gauging interest in future medley sequels and possibly new console medleys. In one of those polls, a new NES Medley was an option among a few others (SNES 3, Game Boy 2, Genesis 2), and it only ended up with 5% of the vote.

Which makes sense, considering we’ve had 10 of those medleys. But just to throw the NES one more bone, we held an NES themed request battle on the GaMetal Discord. The discorders were able to submit their most wanted NES songs in an initial qualifying round, and a mini-tournament was set up with the top 4 songs. The top 4 (from first to fourth) was Title Theme (Solstice), Dr. Wily’s Castle (Mega Man 2), The Strongest Foe (Ys III), and lastly, Kraid’s Lair.

Kraid’s Lair was also a part of the first ever Discord Request Battle many years ago, where it lost to Ridley’s Theme. Since then I’ve had a bit of a running joke with the community about doing Kraid’s Lair eventually, but then ending up having other Metroid songs come before it instead (unintentionally, I swear!).

Well, despite being the underdog in the request battle with the #4 overall vote in the qualifier round, Kraid managed to secure a victory in the end and finally get the full remix treatment.

I based this arrangement mostly on the Super Smash Bros. Melee and Metroid: Zero Mission versions. The SSBM one has always been a favorite of mine, and I’m also fond of the new elements that were added to the Zero Mission arrangement that, as far as I know, haven’t been brought back in an official capacity of this writing.

I also added a hint of SSBU Kraid’s Lair to the mix. That version is incredible, but I didn’t really want to just make a sound-alike version, I wanted something a bit more unique.
