And we’ve saved the best for last. I completely broke the timeline order I had set with the rest of the Dreamland Invasion album tracklist, and return to Super Star (and Super Star Ultra) to pay tribute to Dreamland’s perfect penguin: King Dedede!
When I first began working on the album, Star Allies was not yet a thing. This was originally going to be a double mix of King Dedede and Masked Dedede, when Star Allies was announced, and with it Buff Dedede was born. To add to that, he had a new(ish) theme to boot!
I knew people were going to expect some sort of Star Allies closer on the album, but unfortunately it was in the works far too long for me to consider adding a whole new song to it. What I could do, however, was throw Buff Dedede into this remix to make it a triple remix of King Dedede, Masked Dedede, and Buff Dedede. Three songs. Three De’s. It was perfect. (Like Dedede).
This is also a part tribute to some of my older shots at Dedede’s themes. We start off with King Dedede’s normal theme from Super Star (and you could also argue from Dream Land, since it’s the same but with added parts and in a different key), borrowing heavily from the King Dedede section of my old Masked Dedede remix, including the same guitar solo! But played better I hope.
Masked Dedede comes in second and borrows once again from the 2014 Masked Dedede remix, but also the solo section from the Masked D3 bit in my 2016 Revenge of the Enemy remix. We follow this up with a drum solo ’cause why the heck not?
After playing around with the normal theme again, we get to Buff Dedede from Star Allies to close us out.. but not without one final, tiny GaMetal callback. Right before the crazy outro thingy with the lead and drum stuff, I played an extremely small passage that I used back in my 2010 King Dedede remix. It’s the thing that came in after the techno/dance part (yeah I did some weeeeird stuff back then) at around 01:46 in that remix.
If you caught that, then you really know your GaMetal stuff. Congratulations!
This remix has far succeeded my expectations as far as it’s performance on the Youtube channel is concerned. I was expecting it to place somewhere in the middle, but it ended up being the perfect closer for the album by outperforming even the red hot, hyper requested Marx.
I guess now I know why we call him the King. <(‘-‘<)
