We recently reached the 50,000+ subscriber milestone on Youtube, so I thought we could celebrate by doing something a bit more unique. Enter Sephiroth!
I’ve been holding on to One-Winged Angel for a special occasion. It’s one of the most popular Final Fantasy songs, and also the first Final Fantasy song to include vocals, via choir. I tackled most of the vocals with the same style I performed the vocals on the Dancing Mad remix: a somewhat operatic style. At first I wasn’t sure how well it’d turn out, but when deciding to do this track, I made a test-version of the choir section first to see what it’d sound like. It was better than expected so I went along with the choice to finally get this one done.
This is a super complex song that could be done several ways. I recall reading that Uematsu always felt this song should be a blend of rock and orchestra, so I didn’t use any synth sounds here, only orchestra instruments (strings and brass). I also included the new section that was added to the Advent Children version (after the instrumental break), it was a good way to get a guitar solo thrown in. Aside from the Advent Children section, I kept the original lyrics for the rest of the song, I don’t really care much for the AC lyrics.
Also for those that don’t know, the lyrics are in latin. I apologize to any latin purists if butchered some of the pronunciations. xD
I’m really pleased with how this one turned out! I feel like the only major FF7 song left to cover is the boss theme. I’ll get to that one sometime in the future, as I am a pretty big fan of the FF7 soundtrack.
