Grab your shovels: GaMetal's first Shovel Knight cover has finally come to fruition!
I've gotten a horde of requests to do songs from Shovel Knight, with Strike the Earth! being the most popular of them all. I was wanting to do a different song from the game for the sake of being.. different (Strike the Earth has received numerous covers and remixes), but the amount of requests for this song in particular far outweighed the others, so I decided to go ahead and do it.
So for starters, I changed my sound again. I spent a couple of weeks coming up with something that sounded wider / less narrow, and also finally managed to get the bass to come out without interfering with the bass drum. I still have some tweaking to do, but this song was a good start.
This song has a ton going on in the background that I wouldn't have been able to catch if not for the .nsf file released by Jake Kaufman. Being able to solo each track individually to hear what each was doing really intensified the respect I have for Shovel Knight's soundtrack and Kaufman's composition abilities. There's so much happening that kind of hides in the background but without it the song isn't the same. I really don't know how else to describe it, grab an .nsf player and the file and check it out for yourself to see what I mean. xD
The original gave me a lot to work with so the most arranging I did was just the addition of the guitar solo (ISNT IT ALL A SOLO) and some slight arranging of the sections towards the later half of the song.
The video has been doing well so I'll definitely be doing some more Shovel Knight in the future. For now, you can dig this one. :)
